Why Papaya

Why Papaya

Papayas really get such a bad rep!

And I get it, believe me.

I have a love hate relationship with papaya. On some days, it tastes nice; on other days it tastes like warm vomit garnished with blue cheese – and no I don’t exaggerate! Eating it feels like self sacrifice – which it is. Searching for nostalgia in every bite hoping that one day I’ll reunite with the sweet red papaya that mama Mwendwa always insisted on packing up for me at Ngara market.

And so I’ve dedicated my life (and tastebuds) to keep trying. Here’s why;

Papaya is one of the most nutrient dense and healing fruits on the planet. It is extremely high in beta carotene, vitamins C & A, and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron. It helps heal any type of digestive disorder such as constipation, acid reflux, colitis, pancreatitis, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, celiac’s disease, H.pylori, diverticulitis, indigestion, bloating, and stomach upset. It has has a soothing, cleansing effect on the digestive tract and gently removes toxins while decreasing swelling and inflammation.

My favorite combination of words! For someone who struggles with at least 9 of these disorders, natural healing using organic foods has been my to go to.

Try squeezing lime on your papaya and enjoy it first thing in the morning preferably an hour before any meals. And let me know how you feel.
