Oat Bowls

Oat Bowls

It’s all I eat!

No seriously, perhaps this is the year I diversify my palette. But for someone who is extremely picky with food, oats meet all my nutritional requirements as they are rich in fiber, phosphorus, magnesium and zinc.

However, that doesn’t mean that I like oats. If you’ve tried them, then you know oats can be extremely bland, tasteless and the texture is gooey. So it took me a while to create recipes that I actually enjoy.

Here’s my 6 favorite sweet overnight oat bowls:

  • Handful peanuts

Mixed Berry Cups (my fav)

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Assorted berries
  • Vanilla yogurt
  • Almond nuts
  • Chia seeds
  • Water or almond milk
  • Honey

Method

  • In a a tumbler/jar/bowl, soak 1/2 a cup of rolled oats with water and add in the spices eg nutmeg and cinnamon and leave overnight in fridge
  • I personally cooked my rolled oats, so in a sauce pan add the oats, milk/water/plant milk and cook in low heat
  • Once ready, serve in a bowl and add in the toppings
  • For the apple stew, in a pan add in the apple cubes, water, cinnamon, nutmeg and honey (optional) – if you add in honey here, you don’t need to drizzle more over the oats
  • For the caramelized banana, slice the banana in 4 halves, sprinkle some cinnamon on a pan over medium heat and cook until brown
  • For the berries, in a sauce pan add your favorite berries and a teaspoon of sugar. Cook over medium heat until the berries are soft and jammy
  • For the cocoa bowls, add in the milk chocolate when cooking the oats and cook under low heat to avoid burning the chocolate
  • Also note that the flavor profile will change depending on what liquid base you use i.e. water, milk, or plant based milk.
