Natural bloating remedies

Digestion is the process in which we consume, break down food into tiny bits that can be absorbed into the bloodstream, and excrete waste. When this process is flawed at any point, it may cause issues like bloating.

Bloating is a medical condition in which your stomach feels tight and full, often due to the accumulation of gas, constipation, indigestion, gut infections, sibo or gastroparesis; a condition of weak muscular contractions, which causes delayed excretion commonly found in women.

If you’ve experienced this before, then you know the discomfort and pain that comes with it. Bloating may either be due to water retention or poor as a result of digestive issues

Here are 9 of my favorite remedies that can help your tummy feel better:

  1. Infused cucumber lemon and mint water

I know what you’re thinking, this is super simple, how could it work, right?

This 3 ingredient recipe is a powerhouse when it comes to bloating and indigestion. The antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties found in mint help soothe bloating pain and reduce stomach inflammation.

Cucumbers contain an antioxidant called quercetin which helps reduce swelling. Similar to placing them over your eyes to reduce puffiness, cucumbers mimic the effects in our digestive system reducing bloating.

  1. Green tea

It’s full of antioxidants and disease-fighting compounds that help prevent gastrointestinal disorders and infection by bacteria that can cause stomach pain and bloating

  1. Celery apple spinach juice

If there’s one thing I always rave about, it’s the impressive resumé that celery has. Packed with potassium and anti-inflammatory flavonoids, celery helps combat bloating and water retention.

On the other hand, spinach is full of antioxidants, potassium, and fiber to fight inflammation and ease digestion.

  1. Papaya orange juice

Papaya contains papain, a protein-digesting enzyme, that helps curb bloating.

  1. Kombucha

Kombucha is a fermented tea that’s full of antioxidants, antimicrobials, and probiotics, which is a little magic portion for a happy healthy gut and improved digestion.

It’s important to note that kombucha is also very acidic so you might want to take it in moderation or alongside water so as to not agitate your gut.

  1. Turmeric ginger shots

Ginger contains gingerols and shogaols which help in stomach contractions and excretion. Your stomach’s purpose is to mix and break down the food that you consume. If food isn’t broken down properly in your mouth or stomach, it is harder to absorb the nutrients in the intestines. Ginger is also beneficial for aiding in nausea and equalizing acid reflux.

Turmeric contains curcumin, a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent that can be used to prevent chronic inflammation and help soothe an upset stomach.

  1. Peppermint tea

The active component in peppermint is called menthol and studies have shown that it has positive effects on the digestive process. It helps reduce stomach pain, bloating, and gas.

  1. Fennel tea

The key active ingredient in fennel seeds is the terpenoid anethole which inhibits spasms in smooth muscles, including those in the intestinal tract easing the excretion properties. In certain amounts, it’s considered a natural laxative and therefore helps ease constipation.

  1. Pineapple turmeric juice

Pineapples contain bromelain, an enzyme that helps in digestion by breaking down proteins while also reducing signs of swelling within the gut. It’s also a high water-content fruit, which will help reduce water retention that causes bloating.
